Meet the Deltans-DWendelin

Dave Wendelin is the Director for the National English Honor Society for Secondary Schools. His educational career began in 1969, now hitting the 50-year mark! Along the way, he has been a high school English teacher, department chair, coordinator, director of English and social studies for a large Colorado school district, and an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado—Denver and Metropolitan State University of Denver. He retired from public school education in 2006, accepting the offer of Director of NEHS in 2008. He is proud of the fact that NEHS now has 1,250 chapters, inducted over 28,000 students last year, and has over 70,000 active members at any given time.

  8. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up breakfast.
  9. I’m more of a reader.
  10. The best paper title I ever created was “Detente with A Separate Peace.”

  12. My dream job is Elementary School Principal.
  13. An author I truly admire is Amor Towles.
  14. My go-to children’s book is Oh The Places You’ll Go, by Dr. Seuss.
  15. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is Great Britain.
  16. My favorite part of being an English Major is being immersed in literature and literary history.
  17. The last book I read was Red at the Bone, by Jacqueline Woodson.

  20. In 10 years, I’m betting that the English major will be still thriving and even more in demand after graduation.

  23. The celebrity I’d most like to spend a day with is James Earl Jones.
  24. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in Switzerland!
  25. My Hogwarts House is Gryffindor!

  • In my entire educational experience, Dave Wendelin was the teacher who had the most impact on me. In fact, I became a teacher because of him! I wanted to inspire my students and share with the them the love of learning that Dave Wendelin shared with me. He is an outstanding educator!
