2022 Convention

2022 Convention Update

The Sigma Tau Delta 2022 International Convention is on-track to meet face-to-face in Atlanta, GA, from March 30-April 2. The entire event will be held in-person at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel with no virtual or hybrid components. See the website for convention schedule updates.

Convention Schedule

The concurrent sessions index of presenters, chairs, and moderators and the session schedule are now both available. Please refer to these lists for the dates and times you are scheduled to present or serve as a moderator or chair and to begin selecting sessions to attend. Visit the Event Preview page for a sneak peek at some of the other exciting events and speakers we are planning. Invitations for the official 2022 Convention App will go out on Monday, March 28.

COVID-19 and the 2022 Convention

Sigma Tau Delta is committed to keeping its members as safe from the spread of COVID-19 as possible. Masks will be required at all concurrent sessions, events, and common areas of the convention. Masks are not required at events at which food and drink are served. Additionally, attendees are allowed to remove their mask when presenting at their scheduled session, and must replace it once they are done presenting. Masks must be worn at all other times and by all other individuals. Please help us all keep one another safe. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available in designated areas throughout the hotel and convention center, and seating in all events will be adjusted to allow for social distancing. Further safety measures may be implemented based upon the status of the pandemic in Atlanta in March.

The Sigma Tau Delta Central Office in conjunction with the Board of Directors have created a COVID-19 FAQ that will be revised and updated as the situation evolves over the coming months. If you have questions or concerns that are not addressed by the FAQ, please send those to [email protected].

Land Acknowledgement

Sigma Tau Delta aims to honor the stories, communities, and cultures that walked the land on which we facilitate our 2022 Convention. As an honor society that supports the study of stories, we must do our part to lift the stories of displaced, marginalized peoples who once called this land their home. By centering a portion of our convention on this history we are celebrating the native life that existed in a time before stolen land and ethnic cleansing, while also acknowledging that these lives are not relics of the past, but incredibly integral components of our present and future.

To place Action behind our words, Sigma Tau Delta is collecting donations for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Scholarship Foundation Program. Visit the interactive Land Acknowledgement installation near Registration to learn more and to share about the territories, languages, and treaties of the land your chapter inhabits, as well as those of other chapters attending the 2022 Convention.

Student Leadership Events and Silent Auction

This year Student Leadership is hosting two convention events: Wednesday’s Student-Run English Expo and Thursday’s Networking before Noon with the Student Leadership Committee. A Silent Auction will be running in the background of both events for three fabulous prizes each valued at $65. Silent Auction prize items include books by our Featured Speakers, Society merchandise and swag, and vouchers to the on-site Shop English pop-up store. Silent Auction tickets are free! All you have to do to receive your tickets is attend these Student Leadership events. One ticket will be handed out at each event, so make sure to attend both events to double your chances of winning. Silent Auction winners will be announced at the end of Thursday’s Networking before Noon event. Winners must be in attendance at the event to claim their prize.

Student-Run English Expo

Wednesday, March 30 at 8:00 – 9:30 p.m.
Join us for a creative convention start facilitated by members of Sigma Tau Delta’s Student Leadership Committee who have endeavored to create an engaging space for participants that centers literary practices and activities, including found poetry, book cover illustrations, and a bit of healthy competition via games and prizes. Come meet your fellow convention-goers and interact in a dynamic setting that perfectly kicks off our 2022 International Convention. All are welcome!

Networking Before Noon with the Student Leadership Committee

Thursday, March 31 at 8:00 – 9:15 a.m.
Conventions are a wonderful space for expanding your professional network and meeting fellow students, scholars, and researchers who are passionate about the study of English. The Student Leadership Committee has worked hard to turn your Thursday morning into an accessible networking session that eases you into the process of mingling and getting to know your fellow convention-goers! Get your business cards ready and let us do the rest, as you join us for a morning session full of opportunities to unite with attendees over common interests such as literary genres, chapter regions, research areas, and more.

Chapter Displays and Merchandise Sales

There are still a few complimentary Chapter Display tables available for chapters who would like to have a chance at winning the $100 prize for Chapter Displays (photos of chapter activities, copies of any publications, etc.). Toot your horn! We also still have a few complimentary Chapter Merchandise tables remaining for those industrious chapters who would like to sell appropriate merchandise such as mugs, tumblers, T-shirts, pins, jewelry, bookmarks, etc. Be creative!

Chapters are welcome and encouraged to participate in both activities; they’re a lot of fun, free, and they give your chapter a chance at making some money for future chapter activities.

Convention Awards Luncheon

The Convention Awards Luncheon on Saturday is a big event and one of the most memorable activities of the convention. There are a limited number of spaces still available. If you haven’t already registered, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

Convention Venue

Hotel rooms

The Sigma Tau Delta room block at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel is now closed. Due to a large convention taking place in Atlanta that ends on March 30, all Atlanta hotels in the vicinity of our event—including the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel—are fully booked for the night of March 30. While the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel does still have some availability on the other nights of our convention, they are encouraging convention attendees to make reservations in one of the nearby suburbs such as Buckhead or Perimeter for the one night and take the MARTA in for the convention.

If you have not yet made your hotel reservation, you may contact our convention hotel to be added to the existing waiting list. Book quickly!

Transportation

Hotel parking is $15/ day for convention attendees.

From the airport—The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel is located approximately 11 miles from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Information on shuttle services, taxis, ride share, and bus transportation can be found on the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport website.

MARTA—Taking the red or gold MARTA lines north from the airport is the fastest and most inexpensive way to get to the hotel. Trains come roughly every 15-20 minutes and can be tracked via the MARTA on the Go App. If you are traveling from the airport, take any northbound train to the Peachtree Center MARTA station. Follow the signs pointing John Portman Blvd after exiting the train. After walking through the fare gate, follow the signs again to Peachtree Street East. At street level turn left on Peachtree and walk to the first intersection (look for Hard Rock Cafe) and turn left on Andrew Young International Blvd. The entrance to the hotel is two blocks down at the intersection with Courtland Street.
