#CelebrateEnglish2020

CelebrateEnglish2020

Most colleges and universities have closed until the end of the school year, and all the traditional spring rituals and “closure” formalities—award ceremonies, commencements, honor society spring inductions and senior recognitions, wearing graduation paraphernalia—are slipping away. Yet these traditions, marking endings and beginnings, are among the actions that bind us as human beings and as members of our honor society. The word ‘society’ has roots in Latin societas, reflecting a bond or interaction among people. We respond to such rituals because we’re part of a community, a Society, that treasures connections.

Recognizing those connections, Sigma Tau Delta would like to facilitate virtual contacts, providing Advisors and members alike the opportunity to deliver messages of congratulations, support, thanks, and celebration. While this forum will be used primarily for messages from and to the 2020 graduating seniors, any Sigma Tau Delta member (including Advisors and alumni) is free to share a video, voice message, or photo.

Students, what message would you like to share about your chapter friends, your Advisor, your English teachers? Advisors, what do you want to say to your Sigma Tau Delta members as the year concludes? Alumni—what can you say to this class of 2020?

How to Participate

To participate in #CelebrateEnglish2020 post your video, audio clip, or photo to social media. Make sure to tag us in your post and use the #CelebrateEnglish2020 hashtag. Not on social media? No worries! You can also email your contribution to the Sigma Tau Delta Central Office. Submissions will be collected and shared on a rolling basis between now and the fall when many schools are holding delayed graduation ceremonies.
