Meet Allie Degner

Allie Degner is the Midwest Region Associate Student Representative for Sigma Tau Delta and is also the Treasure of her chapter at Olivet Nazarene University. Allie is working toward a Bachelor’s Degree as a double major in English and Writing while being an avid violinist in her university’s orchestra and working for her school’s yearbook and art/literary magazine. Allie enjoys skateboarding and eating ice cream.

  2. I never leave the house without my Hydroflask.
  3. If I had to eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be any kind of bread!
  4. Growing up, I was sure I would be a gymnast.
  5. I know every word to to the song Bags” by Clairo.
  6. The best gift I’ve ever received was my grandma’s old typewriter from the 1930s.
  7. My nickname in high school was Degnasty.
  8. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up roasted cauliflower.
  9. I’m more of a reader.
  10. The best paper title I ever created was “Waiting for the Truth of the Barbarians.”
  11. The literary place I’d most like to visit is Haworth, England to see the Brontë Parsonage Museum.
  12. My dream job is working as a travel journalist.
  13. An author I truly admire is Virginia Woolf.
  14. My go-to children’s book is Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson.

  16. My favorite part of being an English major is being able to view the world differently after being exposed to so many pieces of life-changing literature and taking the time to really analyze them thoroughly.
  17. The last book I read was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I tried to read it when I visited her house in 5th grade but I was far too young to understand a lot of it so I decided to pick it back up again.
  18. My favorite book is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.
  19. My favorite bookstore is Totem Books in Flint, MI.
  20. In 10 years, I’m betting that the big trend in literature will be memoirs of how people survived the pandemic of 2020.
  21. My first job was working as a summer custodian in my old high school.
  22. The last book I bought was A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway, and I have read it.
  23. The celebrity I’d most like to spend a day with is Jeff Goldblum or John Krasinski.
  24. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in Positano, Italy.
  25. I’m a muggle!
