Meet Katie Mudd

Katie Mudd is the Director of Social Media Strategies for Sigma Tau Delta and NEHS. While pursuing her MA she was Vice President of her Sigma Tau Delta chapter at Eastern Kentucky University. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at Northern Illinois University in Medieval Romance and Film Theory, where she eagerly researches beheading for her dissertation on Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur. In her spare time she enjoys running, gardening and cooking, spoiling her pets, and traveling with her family.

  1. My favorite movie is Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope.
  2. I never leave the house without sunglasses.
  3. If I had to eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be cheese.
  4. Growing up, I was sure I would be an equestrian.
  5. I know every word to the song Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.
  6. The best gift I’ve ever received was being dog mom to my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Norbert Arthur, and his predecessor Max the Blue Heeler mix.
  7. My nickname in high school was Kates.
  8. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up something delicious from scratch.
  9. I’m more of a reader than a writer.
  10. The best paper title I ever created was “‘So he smote of hir hede’: Women and Beheading in Malory’s Le Morte Darthur.”
  11. The literary place I’d most like to visit is Camelot.

  14. My go-to children’s book is Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham (the book my father used when teaching me to read).
  15. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is Egypt.
  16. My favorite part of being an English Major is being surrounded by a group of like-minded people who understand all my literary references!
  17. The last book I read was How to Vex a Vampire by Alice Winters (and I just finished listening to Ernest Cline‘s Ready Player Two).
  18. My favorite book is: This is an absurd question as I could never pick a single book, but one of the last books to really strike a chord with me and leave me with a serious book hangover was André Aciman’s Call Me by Your Name—thank goodness for the sequel!Call Me by Your Name
  19. Katharine HepburnMy favorite bookstore is Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY.
  20. In 10 years, I’m betting that the English major will be stronger than ever.
  21. My first job was working weekends at a farm that brought petting zoos, pony rides, and hay rides to fairs and festivals.
  22. The last book I bought was Nic Stone‘s Dear Justyce, the sequel to our 2022 Common Reader, but I have not begun reading it yet.
  23. It would necessitate the assistance of a necromancer, but the celebrity I’d most like to spend a day with is my namesake, Katharine Hepburn.
  24. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in Venice, Italy.
  25. My Hogwarts House is Ravenclaw.
