Meet the Deltans

Meet Katie Mudd

Katie Mudd is the Director of Communications for Sigma Tau Delta and NEHS. While pursuing her MA in Renaissance Drama she was Vice President of her Sigma Tau Delta chapter at Eastern Kentucky University. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at Northern Illinois University in Medieval Romance and Film Theory, where she eagerly researches beheading for her dissertation on Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur. In her spare time she enjoys painting, reading, running, gardening and cooking, spoiling her pets, and traveling with her family.

  1. I chose to become an English Major because my undergraduate academic advisor told me to. I had decided I didn’t want to continue to pursue a psychology degree after completing my Associates in Psychology, so he recommended English as I had done very well in all of my English classes thus far. After meeting with the chair of the English department to discuss potential career paths for an English major, I dove into the degree and have never looked back.
  2. My favorite part of being an English Major is being surrounded by other book and word nerds.
  3. The last book I read was House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas.
  4. My favorite book is: This is an impossible question. I read so widely and different books resonate with me for different reasons. My favorite genre is formulaic genre fiction, specifically queer romance. I consume it at an alarming rate.
  5. A book character I identify with is Stella Lane from Helen Hoang‘s The Kiss Quotient. While Stella and I are, generally speaking, absolutely nothing alike, so much about her absolutely resonated with me.
  6. The last book I bought was Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman, but I have not yet read it.
  7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is The Lord of the Rings series.
  8. I’m more of a reader than a writer.
  9. My favorite style of writing is narrative prose fiction.
  10. My go-to children’s book is Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham (the book my father used when teaching me to read).
  11. My favorite childhood memory is of family vacations to visit my aunts and cousins on my mother’s side of the family.
  12. Growing up, I was sure I would be a professional equestrian.
Katie competing her horse Sweet William at the Poplar Place Horse Trials.
  13. My first job was working weekends at a farm that brought petting zoos, pony rides, and hay rides to fairs and festivals.
  14. My dream job is to be a copy editor for a theatre.
  15. I like to spend my free time reading—basically, I like books more than I like people and I read in any spare minute I have.
  16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is Cairo.
  17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is Camelot.
  18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in Venice.
    Katie’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Theodore Rex.
  19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are: well, assuming survival and escape are not a concern, an endless supply of reading material, my dog, and drinking water.
  20. The one song I could listen to on repeat is currently River” by BRKN Love.
  21. The best gift I ever received was a Mediterranean cruise.
  22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a year of dates. It was a wedding shower gift in which instructions and all necessary materials were provided for one date per month for the couple’s first year of marriage. They were directed to submit photos and any memories from each date throughout the year for me to then turn into a memory book for their first anniversary.
  23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up something delicious from scratch—I love to cook!
  24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be the lamb and dried plum stew that is sent to Katniss and Peeta in the arena in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
  25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is Diana Gabaldon.
