Meet Tonie Stewart

Tonie Stewart is an English Major at the University of Alaska—Anchorage. They have been a member of Sigma Tau Delta since spring 2020. Having moved across the country in 2022 from their original chapter in Georgia, they are now the Far Western Associate Student Representative. Like many English Majors, they are constantly surrounding themself with books, their favorites allowing them to escape the real world—even just for a moment. Every year they set a goal to read 100 books, and they encourage others to push themselves and set a reading goal.

  1. I chose to become an English Major because of my love for reading and writing.
  2. My favorite part of being an English Major is that I am not tied down to one type of career. There are so many opportunities for those who study English.
  3. The last book I read was The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton.
  4. My favorite book is Between, Georgia by Joshilyn Jackson.
  5. A book character I identify with is Sullivan Scott form The Beautiful Heart of Sullivan Scott by Jennifer Powers.
  6. The last book I bought was Sign Here by Claudia Lux, but I have not yet read it.
  7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is And Then There Were None.
  8. I’m both a reader and a writer.
  9. My favorite style of writing is fiction novels.
  10. My go-to children’s book is I’ll Walk With You by Carol Lynn Pearson.
  11. My favorite childhood memory is playing on my great grandparent’s property. I could swim in their pool or pick figs off of their trees in the summer.
  12. Growing up, I was sure I would be a pediatric oncologist.
  13. My first job was babysitting.
  14. My dream job is to be a professor of linguistics.
  15. I like to spend my free time playing ukulele, reading, and playing with my dog Mochi.
  16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is Ulm, Germany.
  17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is the Shire from Lord of the Rings.
  18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in London, England.
  19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are my favorite book, my dog, and I guess water.
  20. The one song I could listen to on repeat is Daechwita” by Agust D.
  21. The best gift I ever received was a beautiful concert ukulele.
  22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a digital painting of my friend as Spiderman.
  23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up chocolate milk and sweet potato fries.
  24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be pumpkin pasties from Harry Potter by J. K. Rolling.
  25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is James Patterson.
